ATLAS Central Computing Unit


Two types of Central Computing Units are available:


  • (I)  ATLAS CPU – Industrial PC Unit



Designed for high-demanding implementations, ATLAS-CPU provides enormous processing power, flexibility and reliability in the harshest environmental conditions.  It consists of several dedicated PC compatible modules, which are packed in a compact and robust EMI (electric and magnetic interference) resistant enclosure, suitable for industrial implementation in the electric power environment.  The basic ATLAS-CPU block diagram is:

The basic consistuent ATLAS-CPU modules are:

- Industrial CPU Pentium Module (ATLAS-CPU)
   (Note: minimal requirements)



- Memory Expansion Module (MEM1M)


- Process Interface Signal Controller (Gateway - PTA02)

This gateway module is a part of the Central Computing Unit ATLAS-CPU, and it works in pair with the PI Bus Controller ATP02 (located in the PI rack).  It generates needed address, data and control signals to manage PI modules, which are multiplexed and transferred differentially toward distant PI modules:

  • (II)  ATLAS XP2 – PC Compatible Microcomputer



Designed as a single dedicated PCB (printed circuit board) microcomputer, ATLAS-XP2 includes everything that CCU is needed, with preserved openness for future upgrades.  Its compact design makes it suitable for many implementations where the space is an issue - it takes a single slot in the PI rack.  The communication with external world is provided through the PCB Front Panel, and provision of the ATLAS PI Bus signals via the back-end 64-pin DIN connector.  The basic built-in functional blocks are:
