pATLAS Setup & Configuration


The initial pATLAS configuration is set to “factory default” values, which could be overwritten in each subsequent SETUP mode.  During the system start-up, an actual configuration is checked automatically (“plug-and-play” compliant), and each detected discrepancy toward saved configuration data indicated as “error in configuration”.  Practically, it means that during a regular system operation, between two SETUP modes, the configuration data remain unchanged and saved in CPU non-volatile memory and SD card.

For an average pATLAS unit with a single master CPU module and certain number of I/O and other slave modules, an overview of assumed configuration data includes:

  • Basic unit configuration
  • Data communication (for CPU serial asynchronous ports)
  • Data communication (for FO and Ethernet network port)
  • Digital input data and SOE (sequence of events) recording
  • Counter input data
  • Analogue input data
  • Direct controls
  • Single-step and two-step controls
  • Analogue output data
  • MODBUS Settings


The following examples illustrate the SETUP procedure in more details.  Upon a successful user/operator’s login and by selecting the terminal setup mode of operation, the SETUP Menu appears.  The SETUP Menu offers following configuration choices: Communication Channels, I2C Peripherals, MODBUS Peripherals and Configuration (meaning the Unit Configuration), selectable through the horizontal TAB drop menu.  In the first example, by clicking on the Communication Channels TAB, the Communication Channels Submenu is displayed, with all settable communication parameters for two existing CPU serial interface ports, identified as COM1 and COM2.


In the second example the Unit Configuration Submenu is invoked (by clicking on the Configuration TAB in the SETUP Menu), which allows configuration changes in the pATLAS unit.  The option “Read Configuration” is presented here.


The actual configuration unit status is displayed in the following way:

  • the existing and already configured modules are shown in green;
  • the configured, but missing modules in red;
  • remaining not-configured modules in gray.

Each change in the configuration must be uploaded onto the pATLAS unit and saved in the CPU SD card, what is done through the available Configuration Upload option.

States of module inputs and outputs are also available on request - by selecting (clicking on) the corresponding I/O module in the table.  The two remaining TABs in the SETUP Menu invoke “I2C Peripherals” and “MODBUS Peripherals” submenu pages for setup of the corresponding pATLAS parameters and data.
